Land Protection

Protecting land in Frederick County sustains the region’s agricultural economy, safeguards the quality of our water supply, enhances the quality of life for county residents, and brings visitors seeking to experience the Shenandoah Valley’s scenic beauty and historic landscapes.

Preserve Frederick encourages voluntary land protection measures by property owners, especially through the donation or selling of conservation easements that permanently ensure an owner’s land will remain substantially as it is today.  Easements are voluntary legal agreements between a landowner and a public agency or a nonprofit organization that enable landowners to continue to own and keep their land in current use for farming and natural or historic resource protection while potentially receiving financial benefits in the form of tax credits or selling of development rights.
